We pick you up in Hanoi's Old Quarter at around 08:00 – 08:30 am to start your Ninh Binh Day Trip from Hanoi. The rugged countryside will fly past the window on the 2-hour drive to Ninh Binh province.
Hoa Lu is our first stop; it was from here that King Dinh and King Le ruled before their respective dynasties fell and the capital was moved. Hoa Lu has two very impressive temples devoted to the kings and our guide will explain how people lived under their rules.
We will visit Tam Coc afterwards and enjoy a vast buffet lunch at a local restaurant. We head to the river afterwards, where we will climb into a sampan boat and lie back as the village women row us using just their legs. The ‘Halong Bay on Land’, as it is sometimes known, is awash with photo opportunities: intriguing caves; tall, rocky cliffs; goats and birds atop mountains, and swathes of green and golden rice.
We will rent some bikes when we’re back at the dock and begin cycling down the village paths that run adjacent to vast rice fields. Here you get the picture-perfect Vietnamese scenery; flat rice fields with dramatic mountains behind and the sun overhead.
