Overview

Cruise into a world of deep-rooted gastronomy on the Hoi An Culinary River Cruise, a day tour from Hoi An designed by Incredible Asia Journeys. This is a 3-hour tour that takes you on a culinary journey through the long-established food of Hoi An and the country it belongs to, finding the lesser-known gems of dishes that reach outside of the tourist enclave, into the houses of the many residents who live in the region and beyond.

Along with several courses of delicious food, cooked with the finest local ingredients, you will discover the core philosophies of the Vietnamese when it comes to food, a very foreign concept to Western tourists but one that can be heartily appreciated after one sitting. We will share the huge array of food on offer under the Vietnamese principles of respect, community, and above all, fun, as we cruise down Hoi An’s rivers, marveling at the picturesque tropical scenery and the views of farmers hard at work in the fields.

Itinerary

Activities: Taking a cruise along Hoi An’s rivers and enjoying the wealth of local and national food that we will be served in this communal setting.

We pick you up from your hotel at 10.30 am by Jeep and transfer you to the river to begin your Hoi An Culinary River Cruise.

We explore the true meaning of ‘ăn cơm gia đình’, the Vietnamese philosophy that rules during mealtime to promote a communal atmosphere and show respect to your elders. Literally translating to ‘family meal’, this is a practice observed throughout the country and is intrinsic to the way Vietnamese people eat and revel in the company of each other. Many dishes are shared between a group of diners, and it is common courtesy for young people to fill up their elders’ bowls. Enjoy the leisurely pace of the meal and the hearty flow of conversation that accompanies it; this is a big part of what puts the smiles on the faces of Vietnamese people.

We float serenely down Hoi An’s waterways on our fantastic Chic boat, renovated from a traditional Vietnamese fishing vessel that provides an authentic setting to our authentic meal. The Chic now has the outward appearance of a colorful fishing boat but the insides of a modern Vietnamese kitchen.

We will sit down to enjoy some of the healthiest national food on the planet. You will be served many courses over the passage of our 2-hour cruise, reveling in nationwide classics along with a strong local flavor born of Hoi An’s home-grown ingredients and dishes. Enjoy every aspect of the sweet and savory flavors as well as the smooth and crunchy textures that find a perfect equilibrium in each dish.
