Experience a life outside of the bustling port town of Hoi An on the Hoi An Rural Villages Half-Day Cycling Tour. This Hoi An Day Trip takes in the sights, sounds, and smells of Hoi An's beautiful surroundings by bicycle as we cycle over bridges and along quaint paths to discover a world away from the town on Hoi An’s many islands. We will find the picture of an idyllic Vietnamese life in three villages that specialize in woodcarving, mat weaving, and vegetable farming respectively.
The Hoi An Rural Villages Half-Day Cycling Tour offers you a hands-on experience as we become farmers at Tra Nhieu, where our efforts will be rewarded with a traditional foot spa. A cooking class run by a local chef will show us how to create delicious spring rolls and crispy pancakes, while cycling around the wood workshops of Kim Bong and along the riverbanks of Tra Que, shaded with beautiful nipa palm, will show us a simple but very attractive life in the surrounds of Hoi An. Activities: Cycling around Hoi An’s surrounds to Kim Bong, Tra Nhieu and Tra Que to discover woodworking, mat weaving and vegetable farming respectively.
We pick you up from your hotel at 08:00 am with bicycles at the ready, accompanying you as we cycle to Kim Bong Carpenter Village across the other side of the Thu Bon River. We will take a brief tour of its shipbuilding workshops as well as further examples of artisan woodwork. Mr. Kha will show us his proud tradition of basket boat weaving from bamboo and the wood of palm trees.
Continuing to Tra Nhieu, we marvel at the nipa palm bordering the water’s edge, planted to protect the village from flooding and subsequently creating the most beautiful of tropical scenes. After an introduction to Tra Nhieu’s role during the American War, we begin island-hopping over quaint bamboo bridges, watching the quintessential Vietnamese scene unfold at the riverbanks as large fishing nets are cast into waters teeming with fish. We take a pleasant walk around a coconut forest and head back to Tra Nhieu to learn of the making of attractive mats using rush and jute fibres.
We then board the local ferry and head to Tra Que, a farming village with about 150 farmers working the land to grow 20 different types of vegetables such as mint, basil and broccoli. Mr. Minh will warmly greet us here and welcome us with a traditional ‘basil juice’, popular in these parts, before showing us the cultivation techniques used in Tra Que before we have a go ourselves.
Relax after your work with a herbal foot bath before joining a cooking class where we will learn how to make tam hữu (spring rolls) and bánh xeo (crispy pancakes). We will enjoy these and many other local specialties for lunch before cycling back to your hotel in Hoi An.
The Hoi An Rural Village Half Day Cycling Tour ends here and we thank you kindly for your pleasant company throughout!
