Overview

Known as the ‘Gateway to the Mekong’, Ben Tre Province showcases the beauty of the famous Mekong Delta in the first 90km south of Ho Chi Minh City. The Ben Tre Mekong Delta Full Day Tour takes you to the languid backwaters of this stunning province, where verdant greenery fans out from the shores of the Mekong River and its tributaries. Relax on a local rowing boat as we drift serenely through placid waters lying beneath high-rising coconut trees; truly a picture of paradise.

We will also visit the various handicraft villages around Ben Tre and witness the graft of workers and they make hundreds of objects out of the province’s iconic symbol, the coconut, as well as various other crafts like pottery and weaving. We see some of the fruit orchards for which the region gets its luxuriant affiliation with tropical fruit, as well as the thick jungle where many battles were fought during the American War. Itinerary

Activities: Exploring the gorgeous area of Ben Tre through its workshops, villages, fruit orchards and tranquil waterways, with lunch at a riverside restaurant.

Wait in your hotel lobby at 08.00 am for our tour guide to pick you up in the private car. The Ben Tre Mekong Delta Full Day tour will commence as we head south to Ben Tre Province.

We will reach the Ham Luong River (a run-off of the Mekong) and take a boat tour along its wide expanse. Stops will be made at some of Ben Tre’s most renowned handicraft workshops, where diligent workers fire bricks, process coconut into many different forms and weave mats with the aid of dried reeds and a huge loom. Take the opportunity to have a go at weaving your own mat under the guidance of an experienced local.

Next, we will take a walk around a picturesque village and its beautiful, tropical surrounds. A local Xe Loi (motorised rickshaw) will take us into the jungle where we can discover exotic fruit orchards and enjoy lunch in a restaurant overlooking the river. Try the local specialities of elephant-ear fish and freshly caught river shrimp.

After lunch, we will spend the rest of the afternoon lounging on a sampan boat as we are rowed through Ben Tre’s iconic backwaters. Make sure to bring your camera as the overhanging water palms and coconut trees create a magical ambiance that you will certainly want to commit to memory.
